An annual grant to help a local organisation has been launched by Just Credit Union in memory of Steve Brown, founding volunteer board member.

With representatives of the family of the late Steve Brown present at its annual meeting, Just Credit Union, Chief Officer, Karen Farrow announced a £500 annual grant to help a local organisation.

Full details of how groups can apply will be available towards the end of April with the ‘Steve Brown Community Award’ being made to the organisation where Just Credit Union think it will have the greatest impact in May.

Steve was particularly interested in sport and helping youth groups so Karen said Just Credit Union would be prioritising those sectors this year. Full details of how groups can apply will be available towards the end of April.

Just before his retirement from Just Credit Union’s Board, Steve’s commitment and contribution was nationally recognised at the ABCUL Annual Conference.

The Kirit Patel Award is presented annually in recognition of an individual’s long term volunteer contribution to the credit union movement.

Karen told Just Credit Union’s annual meeting: “Steve was involved from the very start, joining the steering group that set up Just Credit Union in the late 90’s.

“When JCU launched in October 2001, Steve became a director and took on the role of treasurer. Steve brought his expertise, diligence and determination to his roles and will be greatly missed. But mostly, we will miss him personally.”
