All Together Money has published a new set of policy briefing guides to support engagement with elected representatives and policymakers in Scotland and Wales following the recent elections in both nations.
Developed for newly elected Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) and Members of the Senedd (MSs), the guides provide an overview of the credit union sector and the vital role credit unions play in promoting financial inclusion, supporting local economies and delivering affordable financial services within communities.
The guides also highlight key policy priorities and opportunities for collaboration between governments and the credit union movement. Areas of focus include strengthening financial inclusion, supporting community wealth building, promoting access to affordable credit and recognising credit unions as strategic partners in delivering economic and social outcomes.
The publications form part of All Together Money’s ongoing work to raise awareness of the sector among policymakers and ensure credit unions are represented in discussions as new administrations establish their legislative and policy priorities.
Matt Bland, Chief Executive of All Together Money, said: “Credit unions play a vital role in communities across Scotland and Wales, providing safe savings products, affordable credit and financial support to millions of people.
“As new governments begin to shape their priorities for the years ahead, it is important that policymakers understand both the impact credit unions already have and the opportunities that exist to work more closely together to improve financial wellbeing and strengthen local economies.
“These guides are designed to support those conversations and demonstrate how credit unions can be valuable partners in delivering positive economic and social outcomes.”
Over the coming months, the guides will be used to support engagement with ministers, parliamentarians and officials across both nations, helping to ensure the credit union sector remains at the forefront of policy discussions around financial inclusion, economic growth and community development.
