Walsave Credit Union has celebrated 30 years of supporting its members and making a positive difference to communities across Walsall. The credit union marked the milestone with a special celebration on Tuesday 13 October, bringing together members, staff, volunteer board members, partners and supporters to reflect on its achievements and look ahead to the future.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Alan Fleming, who joined the celebrations and cut the anniversary cake.
Established in 1996 as an employee credit union for Walsall Council, Walsave expanded its membership in 2003 to welcome anyone who lived or worked in Walsall. Since then, it has continued to grow, providing a community-focused alternative for people looking to save regularly and access affordable loans.
Today, Walsave has around 5,500 members and assets of £12 million. Over its 30-year history, it has issued more than £36 million in loans, helping members access finance while supporting their financial wellbeing.
Operating with a team of seven, Walsave continues to play an important role in its local community, demonstrating the lasting value of the credit union model and its focus on putting members first.
Ann Lote, Chief Executive of Walsave Credit Union, said: “Reaching our 30th anniversary is a fantastic milestone, and we’re incredibly proud of everything Walsave has achieved over the last three decades.
“From our beginnings as an employee credit union for Walsall Council to supporting thousands of members across the borough today, our focus has always been on helping people save, borrow responsibly and improve their financial wellbeing.
“We’d like to thank our members, staff, volunteers, partners and everyone who has supported us along the way. Their trust and commitment have helped make Walsave what it is today, and we’re excited about continuing to support our community for many years to come.”
As Walsave celebrates its 30th anniversary, the milestone provides an opportunity to recognise the contribution credit unions make to local communities by offering accessible financial services, encouraging a savings habit and helping people manage their money with confidence.
