Bradford District Credit Union (BDCU) reached the milestone through loans to residents across the district.

The loans have helped people avoid high-interest lenders, manage unexpected expenses, and build long-term financial stability.

Katie Hurrell, CEO of BDCU, said: “Reaching £5 million in lending and 100 per cent growth over the last three years is a huge milestone for BDCU, representing thousands of individual stories and showing what’s possible when a community works together to support one another financially.

“Every loan we approve represents someone taking a positive step. We’re incredibly proud that, together, we’ve helped keep millions of pounds in our local economy.

“I’d like to thank our members for choosing to save and borrow with us, our staff for the care and commitment they show every day, and our partners for championing fair, affordable finance across the district.”

In the past three years, BDCU has grown member savings to £6.5 million and estimates that members have avoided approximately £3.74 million in high-interest charges by choosing ethical loans over doorstep lenders or loan sharks.
